10-09-2024 Vincent's Room in Arles (Third Version 1889)
I have examined many works by Van Gogh
related to his bedroom in Arles to analyze the various details. At a certain
point, I chose the third version (the last one) because it conveyed more emotion
to me. I don't know if he tidied up his room before painting it, but I believe
so, also because nothing appears out of place. Additionally, observing the
elements present in the two previous attempts, it is interesting to note the
movements of various objects and others that remained immobile. It is a sequence
interspersed over a certain period between 1888 and 1889, as if they were
crystallized images of moments from his daily life. I wonder if the guests who
occupied that same room in the following years were aware of the genius who had
preceded them...
The paintings are curious, as two seem to be his creations, one of which appears
to be a self-portrait. Those just above the bed have clear oriental components,
of which he was known to be passionate. An essential but certainly comfortable
room, with that window of his that let in light and offered a wide view through
its panes. A window that certainly inspired many of his works, as it overlooked
Place Lamartine and the public gardens. It is presumed that from there he
created:
• The Yellow House - This painting depicts the house where Van Gogh lived and
worked at Place Lamartine.
• The Garden of the Hospital in Arles - A work that shows the garden of the
hospital where Van Gogh was hospitalized for a period.
• View of Arles, Irises - A painting that captures the beauty of the irises
around Arles.
