19-07-2024 Noon, Rest from Work - By Van Gogh from Millet's Work

Created by Van Gogh in 1890 to honor Millet's earlier work. It was customary in those years, as it is today, to recreate famous works by other artists as a sign of respect... This 'Noon – Rest from Work' is certainly a clear example among them all!

CONTEXT:
For the first time, I am bringing a pencil drawing to life while on vacation, during a quiet moment here in Sardinia. As I trace the lines of this famous Van Gogh painting with my pencil, I try to understand if the thoughts crossing my mind are in any way similar to those of the artist who preceded me, given our shared experience...
I think back to when I was a child, accompanying my grandparents (Michele and Bartolomeo) on the tractor in the fields to "make hay" with the mower and occasionally lying down next to the bales scattered on the ground, just like in this painting.
Or when my cousin Manuel or Paolo and I would go to the fields when the grass was freshly cut to play "wrestling."
And in more recent times, lying in the meadows after a picnic, relaxing and chatting with someone...
